As you see, after Joost Brasser there are a few querie marks. Actually, before Joost things are a bit murky as well. Regarding Jan Brasser around 1500, all we know that apart from Pieter, he also had a son Vincent. He was a priest and is buried in the Old Church in Delft.
The name Brasser is apparently quite common in one part of Belgium.
We also know that Brassers lived in the province Zeeland around 1200 - 1300.
Did we originate in Zeeland?? Going back even further; Did we come from France? Research in genealogy in Zeeland is hampered by the many floods they had. During these awful events hundreds of villages were completely wiped. Apart from the terrific loss of lives and property, many records must have got lost as well, which in those days were kept in churches.
There were major floods, the St.Elizabeth Flood in 1421, the 'All Saints Flood'on 1 November 1570, and of course the big flood in 1953. There were many others. The ones we know of happened in 1404-1421-1530-1562-1570-1662-1784-1799-1805- 1809-1812-1820-1825-1855-1861-1953.
For me, living at the other end of the world makes research rather difficult.

Apparently, several Brassers in Zeeland were millers (owned and/or ran a windmill). There is still a windmill just South of Biggekerke on Walcheren, owned and run by Brassers. Important as far as our family tree is concerned? May be, may be not. Must visit this next time I am in Holland.
